The Race For Technology

Cutting edge technology can make or break a nation, a company, a life. No one can escape its slow conquest. The world clapped in wonder at the marvels of black and white soundless movies, room-sized computers that could do simple math equations, and party line phones. Then the upgrading began. T.V. had sound, computers shrunk to chunky, desk sized, phones became shoe-sized portable phones. Today there are plasma screens big as walls, computers that can complete thousands of mind-boggling tasks and yet are thinner than a peanut, and tiny cell phones that can surf the web.

It seems as if everyone is in a race to have the latest, fastest technology. A student upgrades his computer, but is devastated when he realizes someone else got the same upgrade only with a wider screen. Another person proudly flaunts a blackberry phone only to be crushed when her friend starts texting on his iphone. A friend gets a kindle for Christmas but feels cheated because she didn’t get an ipad. Everyone wants to be with it when dealing with technology. The number of people that refuse to participate in the race for the smallest and the best gadgets is gradually dwindling.

Just like all things, too much of technology can be bad. People that play computer games at work or in class, facebook stalk everyone in existence, or that twitter every minute are wasting valuable time. Yet technology has benefited society in many ways. Without technology there would be no communication, no quick plane trips, no movies, emails, powerpoints, and a lot of people would have much poorer health.

New advancements, inventions, and discoveries are made daily. What once started as a few humans struggling to survive in the wilderness, is now a world bustling with millions of people in a hurry to make money and upgrade their technology.

While most believe technology is essential for communication, and a variety of other purposes, occasionally even the most techno-savvy individuals fail to use technology that really matters.
