Many people choose to add extra security to their home so that they can keep their belongings safe. This is usually done by adding one of the many alarm systems that are available.
The most popular kind of alarm is the burglar alarm. These are used to scare thieves away from your property and are available in two different forms. The Bells Only alarm is the most popular. When the alarm has been set a code needs to be entered to deactivate it. If the code is not entered within a set amount of time then the alarm will sound. This is usually sufficient to deter an intruder. The only downfall is that if you are not there then you have to rely on a neighbour to call the police for you.
There is also a Monitored alarm. The main difference between this and the Bells Only is that the Monitored alarm is connected to a remote monitoring center. On activation of your alarm the monitoring center will telephone you. If it is a false alarm then you simply give your pass code and it will not be taken any further. If you do not answer or the person who answers does not give the code then the police will be sent to the property. This can be a good choice if you live in an isolated area.
If you are a nervous person or have reason to believe that you are in danger then you may wish to have a duress alarm fitted in your home. In the event of an emergency you press the button and the police will be contact and sent to you.
These are the most popular alarms but there are some others that you may wish to consider as well. Some people choose to use movement detectors with their burglar alarm. You place the sensors in certain places in your house and they use ultrasonic or infrared rays to detect any movement that crosses their path.
For extra security you can also use Magnetic reed switches. These can be placed on your doors and windows and they will raise the alert when a door or window is opened deterring the trespasser from entering your property. It can also allow you to see where your property may be vulnerable and where may need extra protection.
For a more detailed alarm system you may wish to use a CCTV monitoring system. You place video cameras at various points on your property which will record the goings on in that area. You can either employ someone to watch the screens or you can play the video back later on. Video footage can be very helpful when it comes to prosecuting an intruder.
Smoke alarms are a must for every home. It is recommended that everyone has them as they can be instrumental in saving you from fire. They sound when smoke hits them giving you enough time to escape to safety before a fire develops fully. Alarm systems are able to provide you with both home security and peace of mind.
